Kerri Oswald receives ‘Legend Award’ from RecognizeGood
RecognizeGood has honored Kerri Oswald with its 70th “Legend Award” for her tireless commitment to seniors in our community. The Legend award carries with it a $1,000 pay-it-forward donation in Kerri’s name to the nonprofit of her choice. She chose Drive a Senior – Southwest.
Kerri’s volunteer journey began in 2003 when she signed on with AGE of Central Texas to help adults with early memory loss through the Memory Connections program. For the past 14 years she has spent every Friday morning engaging her charges in cognitive activities, such as creative writing, music therapy and current-events discussions. She found that many of her seniors were struggling to find adequate transportation to medical, shopping and social appointments. So she researched the problem and soon became a founding director of Drive A Senior – Southwest. The Drive A Senior Network has five regions in Central Texas that offer free rides to seniors who choose to stay in their own homes after they give up driving themselves. Kerri has personally logged more than 3,200 hours of “road work” for seniors enrolled in the program
In addition to the pay-it-forward donation, Kerri’s “Legend” status means she’ll be part of the “Say Thanks Austin” campaign in January, 2018. “Say Thanks” allows Central Texans to honor a handful of truly remarkable individuals who give freely of their time and talents to improve our community. The participant with the most Thank You votes receives a $10,000 donation to his or her favorite nonprofit.
RecognizeGood is a local nonprofit that provides a means for individuals, businesses and other nonprofits to illuminate selfless volunteers, charitable acts and community service throughout the greater Austin area. There are several active RecognizeGood programs that work toward this mission from different angles, but the common theme is simple – the illumination of GOOD in our community.
